Anyone carrying out licensable security activity in the UK must hold the correct licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Working without one is a criminal offence under section 3 of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. To apply for most front-line licences you must first hold the relevant licence-linked qualification.

The Act applies across the whole of the UK, including Scotland and Northern Ireland. We deliver training at our Saltcoats centre and on-site for groups anywhere in the UK.

For those working on licensed premises, events and venues. Includes conflict management, physical intervention skills, and counter-terrorism awareness content.

Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry

For static guarding, patrols, retail and corporate security roles.

Level 2 Award for CCTV Operators (Public Space Surveillance)

For operators monitoring public-space CCTV systems.

Level 3 Award for Working as a Close Protection Operative

For those providing close protection (bodyguarding) services.

Door Supervisor Top-Up Training

For existing licence holders who need to complete top-up training before renewing their licence.

Before you book

• First aid: Door Supervisor and Security Officer learners must hold a valid first aid qualification (such as Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work) before starting. We can run this for you — ask when you book.
• ID: you must bring acceptable identity documents on the first day. Your centre will check these against SIA requirements.
• English language: the SIA requires learners to have sufficient English to work safely and effectively. The centre may assess this before the course.
• Licence application: passing the qualification does not by itself give you a licence. You must then apply to the SIA, which will carry out identity and criminality checks.
